The structure was engineered with the use of GLT columns, beams and purlins with 3-layer CLT board as Sofit panels. As an integral aspect of the design, the 8.5m glulam timber roof cantilevers create a ‘V’ shape inspired by modest aboriginal architecture and local environment whilst providing shelter from the weather and solar shade cover for the seating.

The use of a mass timber structure in the Stadium is the first use of glulam timber for this type of facility in Australia, representing an exceptional achievement in timber engineering.

The impressive roof structure is 65m long with a span of 25m and consist of 220m3 of spruce GLT sourced from Europe. Sustainable design was an important objective of the project, and the timber construction was key to achieving this – low carbon, low waste and highly energy efficient.
